Fair / April 17, 2023 - April 21, 2023
Hannover Messe 2023
Current research projects funded by the BMBF and BMEL will be presented at the joint booth A33 "Showcase Bioeconomy" in Hall 2 from April 17-21, 2023.
The Project Management Jülich, BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg and the Agency for Renewable Resources e. V. (FNR) will show you the opportunities offered by a bio-based economy and where the bioeconomy can already be found in everyday life.
Fraunhofer ISC will be presenting the NewHype project there, which is about developing a sustainable alternative to previous mulch films in agriculture.
Mulch films have been used extensively in fields to regulate heat and moisture and increase crop yields. They are made of petroleum-based polyethylene (PE) and are not biodegradable. After harvest, the film residues must be collected at great labor cost or remain behind and pollute the fields. The films decompose and microplastics are produced, which accumulate there for years and enter the food chain.
Together with European partners, Fraunhofer ISC is developing sustainable, biodegradable mulch papers with a protective hybrid coating to replace plastic films.
