There is a close connection between basic research at universities and application-oriented research, as carried out at Fraunhofer Institutes: The institutionalized teaching and research activities of Fraunhofer scientists at neighboring universities. Since October 1, 2024, Prof. Dr. Miriam Unterlass has held the chair “Chemical Technology of Materials Synthesis” at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg. She succeeds Prof. Dr. Gerhard Sextl, who held the chair for many years.
The close connection is also reflected in the Fraunhofer ISC offer to young academics of materials science: students and graduates can participate in R&D projects, in the form of complete study-related internships or to work on bachelor/master or doctoral theses.
